1. Who really wants to be #1 and #2? Since week 1, there have been 3 different teams at #1 this year (USC and LSU twice, and Ohio State), which is not too strange. However, during that same stretch there have been 6 different teams at #2 (USC, LSU, Cal, South Florida, Boston College, and Oregon) and South Florida has dropped from #2 to completely out of the 25 in 4 weeks. Given the events of last night with Oregon losing to unranked Arizona, guaranteeing there will be a seventh different team ranked #2 next week, don't be surprised to see even more changes in the next 3 weeks. By the way, every team that has been ranked #2 this year and lost has done so against an unranked team. USC vs. Stanford, Cal vs. Oregon State, South Florida vs. Rutgers, Boston College vs. Florida State, and Oregon vs. Arizona.
2. Which Big 12 team will be in the BCS Championship? Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri are ranked 3, 4, and 5 in the BCS poll for week 12, respectively. Though not a guarantee, especially given the way college football as turned out this year, one of these teams will almost no doubt be playing in New Orleans for the BCS championship game. The funny thing is, each one of these teams controls their own destiny. Kansas and Missouri will play next week to determine who will face Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship, with the winner of the championship game almost guaranteeing there ticket to the Big Easy. Each of these teams has there own argument too. Kansas is undefeated and is who the voters like right now. Missouri has played in the tough games already this year, and beating a quality team twice in one year, which is what OU might have to do, is no small task. Oklahoma is the most talented and the best football team all around. Kansas has the toughest road with Iowa State, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Missouri has Kansas State, Kansas, and Oklahoma, again. Oklahoma finishes up with Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and the Missouri/Kansas winner.
3. Who will win the Heisman Trophy? The frontrunners for the nations most prestigious individual honor changes about as much as the top of the BCS. Darren McFadden started out as the unanimous pre-season favorite. Early season losses and up and down games has put him back in the middle of the pack. His numbers are still there, but monster games against Mississippi State and LSU will be the only way for him to hoist that trophy in New York. Tim Tebow emerged early on in the season as one of the favorites and despite 3 losses and a shoulder injury, he has maintained his status as a favorite due to his gaudy numbers. 42 total touchdowns (23 Passing, 19 Rushing). Over the last 4 or 5 weeks, Dennis Dixon came on stronger than anyone. Getting impressive victories over USC and Arizona State cemented himself as a leading contender, but last nights loss, and more importantly, injury as all but eliminated him from contention. The last serious candidate is Chase Daniel. He's the best player on one of the top 5 teams in the country and without him, this team is no better than 7-3, possibly 6-4. 26 TD's and 9 INT's doesn't hurt either. My finalists this year are McFadden, Tebow, and Daniel, with Tebow taking home the stiff-armed hardwear.
